COLLECTIONS INSTRUCTIONS

Collection should be done Monday-Friday only. Ship within 12-24 hours of collection.

PEKIN — About 15,000 specimens are tested daily for COVID-19 at Reditus Laboratories in Pekin. These specimens come from testing sites throughout the state. Here is a summary of the process. A trained staff member administers the nasal swab specimen collection or proctors the specimen collection if it is self-administered by the patient. Step 1

To being; wash your hands and make sure you are testing in a clean space.

Step 2

Open specimen tube and place cap face up on clan surface. Avoid spilling and touching the insideof the tube or cap to avoid contamination.

Step 3

Open the swab pack leaving the swab end covered in the packaging until you are ready to swab. Do not touch the swab soft tip.

Step 4

Insert the swab into your nose approximately 3/4 inch. You will feel the resistance of your nose narrowing.

Step 5

In a circular motion, swab the inside of your first nostril for a minimum of 5 to 10 circles.

Step 6

Place the swab in the specimen tube and snap off the end of the swab at the break line. Place the cap on the tube, and screw cap tightly.

Step 7

Step 8

Ensure that the specimen tube is properly labeled. (Last Name, First Name, Date of Birth, Date of Collection)

Step 9

Place the specimen tube containing the swab in the biohazard bag provided and seal the bag.

Step 10

Insert the swab into your nose approximately 3/4 inch. You will feel the resistance of your nose narrowing.

Step 11

Place the box inside the provided UPS Laboratory Pak mailing bag.

Step 12

Ensure return label is on the UPS bag and schedule a pick up, drop off at UPS or a UPS drop box.

The test kit is for adults ages 18 and older, whether or not you have symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) or Influenza A and B.
Yes, Reditus Laboratories has a test kit that gives the laboratory the ability to test for both COVID-19 and Influenza A and B for your convenience. Until recently, at-home kits have tested for COVID-19 exclusively.

You will collect your sample using a simple nasal self-swab. Instructions and all the supplies you need will be in the test kit that you receive in the mail. You will be asked to collect the specimen and return it in the packaging provided within 12 to 24 hours of collecting your specimen. We use the gold-standard RT-PCR (reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction) testing to detect SARS-CoV-2. PCR has sensitivity and specificity of 98% or greater for COVID-19 by detecting unique gene sequences present only in SARS-CoV-2. The multiplex Influenza A and B and SARS-CoV-2 assay can be simultaneously tested from approved upper respiratory collected specimens.
